Bearing Diabolos

Clutch, or one-way bearing, diabolos are an exciting development in the diabolo world. They have an axle which will turn one way and runs on ball bearings. This means that you can get the diabolo spinning really quickly and it decelerates much slower giving you more time to complete those difficult tricks. Triple bearing axles do this better and are quieter than other standard bearing axles. This type of diablo is ideal for beginners. We now even have five bearing diabolos for sale.
There are some down sides to this type of diabolo though. Firstly, the bearings will, eventually, wear out or get dirt inside which means they will need replacing at some point. They also make certain tricks, like the magic string climb (a.k.a. elevator), impossible. For these reasons many top level diabolists don’t use them as, with the right technique and practice, you can achieve the same speed with fixed axles.
One of the first diabolos of this type was the Sundia Fly which has a single set of slider bearings. Sundia improved on their design in the form of the Shining which incorporated a triple bearing axle. Since then Juggle Dream released the Cyclone, Henry’s the free hub diabolos and Babache the Evo2 diabolos. The most recent incarnations all feature triple bearings and run smoothly, quietly and have a long life span.
