Contact juggling is a form of juggling, or object manipulation, where the ball doesn’t leave the body of the performer. Instead it is rolled around the body or held in the hands to create optical illusions. Contact juggling techniques have been around for a long time but its modern form, particularly the use of clear acrylic balls (that look like crystal balls and are often mistaken for glass balls), and many modern moves were conceived Michael Moschen in the early ‘80s. Since then this form of juggling has become extremely popular.
We stock all sorts of contact juggling balls. The most beautiful are acrylic balls – clear, glass-like balls – that look like they’re floating when manipulated with skill. This sort of ball has recently been marketed as Fushigi Magic Gravity Defying Ball but these tend to be less strong than the original acrylics. We have sizes from 65mm acylics for multiball contact, right up to huge 120mm balls for amazing illusions and body-rolling. We also have coloured acrylic balls.
If you don’t want to scratch your nice acrylic you can buy a practise contact ball or a large stage ball. These plastic balls have more grip so make learning body rolls much easier. They don’t look as pretty but they’re fairly cheap and don’t get damaged when dropped!
We also have books and DVDs to inspire and teach you how to do contact juggling. Learn contact from some of the best performers and teachers in the world and check out the In Isolation DVD for some of the best crystal ball manipulation you’re likely to see!
