Meteors

Meteors are also known as meteor hammers, flying hammers, dragon’s fist or, to use the Chinese, liúxīng chuí. Modern meteors are based on the ancient Chinese weapon, both of which consist of two weights attached by a 1m to 2m long rope. In the past the meteor was valued as a fast, surprise weapon that could be easily concealed due to its flexible construction. Today, meteors are more often used as performance props, valued for the aesthetics in their manipulation.

The most common type of meteor has two heads but it can be used with just one. This makes it very similar to the rope dart, differing only slightly in weight and length. That’s why we’ve included the Flowtoys rope dart in this section as well.

Our non-fire meteor poi are made from tough and durable nylon rope and two whopping monkey fist knots at the ends supply the weight. The fire meteor poi replace the rope with strong ball chain and the monkey fist knots with large Kevlar wicks.

Meteor tricks have much in common with both staff and poi and combining the two make this prop very versatile. Advanced spinners can even perform contact staff tricks with meteor poi.
