Rhythmic Gymnastics Equipment

Rhythmic gymnastics has quite a bit of overlap with circus skills which is why we stock a range of rhythmic gymnastics equipment. We have balls and ribbons that are approved by the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) for competitive use. We also have unofficial ribbons that can be used for fun or practise. The balls come in two sizes: a small 160mm (360g) and a large 190mm (420g) rhythmic gymnastics ball.

Rhythmic gymnastics shares much in common with the more well-known artistic gymnastics, specifically the floor discipline, in terms of the emphasis on tumbling and flexibility. The most obvious difference between the two is the manipulation of the apparatus: a ball, hoop, ribbon, rope or clubs, that isn’t present in the artistic style.

The ball discipline shares a lot of body rolling moves with contact juggling, the hoop has obvious similarities with hula hoop and the clubs share many moves with club swinging, and therefore poi. In men’s rhythmic gymnastics, not officially recognised by the FIG, there is a discipline for the stick as well. This has many similarities with baton twirling and, of course, staff spinning.

Gymnastic, or twirling, ribbons also make great children’s toys as it is quite easy to make some basic, but pretty patterns with the ribbon. Things start to get more difficult as you get more advanced and start adding dance, acrobatic and tumbling movements.
