Manipulation

Object manipulation is the name given to certain juggling and circus skills but also some dance and acrobatic disciplines. These activities tend to involve either a “contact” element – moving the prop across your body without holding on to it – or an element of illusion, for example, isolating a contact ball so it looks like it’s floating and moving your hand rather than your hand moving the ball.

There are an infinite number of objects to manipulate but we stock the most popular and most interesting! Perhaps the most common form of object manipulation is contact juggling. Often done with clear “crystal” balls made from acrylic, contact juggling involves creating the illusion of the ball defying gravity and being rolled all around the body. Recently, contact balls have been marketed as Fushigi balls.

S-Staffs (s-blades / Buugeng) are curved staffs that create beautiful illusions when manipulated with precision. We stock magnetic wooden s-staffs, polished aluminium s-staffs, micro s-staffs and fire s-staffs.

The contact arts also include contact fire staff and contact poi. The staff or poi is rolled or rotated around the body without holding onto the prop. Our contact staffs and contact poi are some of the best available.

We also stock Dragon Staffs, which are contact staffs with four spokes at each end. These props adapt the ancient Chinese art of Fei Cha for modern fire spinning.
