Product details

Firetoys Big Burner Fire Staffs are great all-rounders and are suitable for beginners and advanced spinners.

The Big Burner Fire Staffs are especially suited to single staff spinning. They can be used as double staffs but many people find them too long to be used as doubles. They are good for learning contact moves due to their length and the large amounts of wick adding weight, and therefore momentum, to the ends. However they are still a bit light for to be a really good contact fire staff. If your interests lie in contact staff then you're much better off with one of our Fibre 3 Contact Fire Staffs - find them here - and learning contact staff basics with this book.

All Firetoys aluminium staffs are light weight, durable and hard wearing. The wicks are extremely robust and should last many hundreds of burns if maintained correctly. On our Big Burner Fire Staffs we use 75cm of 100mm wide, high-grade para-aramid wick - much more than most other staffs out there. This large amount of wick provides a big size flame which will burn for five to nine minutes depending on conditions. The grip on these staffs is top quality, extra-long, padded and insulated. Both the padded grip and the wicks can be replaced easily if required.

For the shaft of the fire staff we use top quality, ¾" (1.9cm) diameter aluminium, which is both strong and light. The end plugs are made from dense fibreglass which won't burn or deteriorate with heat, unlike wood which is used in most other, non-Firetoys, fire staffs. This greatly extends the lifespan of our staffs.

The bolts we use to attach the wick to the shaft go right through the entire burner and screw into each other ensuring the wicks are better secured and easier to replace. These bolts further extend the life of our staffs as they don't wear away the end plugs when your staff is re-wicked. The extra weight of the fibreglass also adds weight to the extremities making this fire-staff spin with more momentum.

I am a beginner and I found it great! I tried with other staffs but with this it was easier!
Standard Staff Is Standard Of Excellence Review by Tadek , 19/02/2013

Whether you're a beginner or a more experienced fire twiddler this staff is quite honestly superb! I and a few other folks I spin with have been using these staffs for a while now and we honestly love them with good reason!
-The padded grip is comfortable and securely affixed. It gives good grip and a small amount of cushioning that you really appreciate on high throws. It takes up the middle third of the staff too which helps you to not only find the centre with ease but also to see where the key points are for pendulum like swings such as you might use for neck wraps, stalls or other funky improvisations.
-The shaft itself is made from aluminium and to date I have not burned myself while accidentally grabbing it when something goes a bit wrong. I have slightly bent it before while doing kick tricks or occasionally on dropping big throws while playing catch, but that's only to be expected as I treat my staffs fairly roughly. The nice thing about this light weight tube is that it's incredibly easy to put back into shape when or if you do put a kink in it, usually just bending back over your knee with not too much presure.
-The Big Burner wicks are also a great thing as they add some needed weight to the ends of the staff which give it a better sense of momentum than other basic fire staffs on the market, enabling longer, smoother palm spins and contact moves too. The chunky nature of these wicks mean that they hold a good amount of fuel and will generally burn for 4-6minutes for me (slower spinning may extend this but I get a bit nippy). The burn offs are impressive and only rivaled or beaten by multi-wick staffs or the noticably more expensive monkey fists.
-The bolts used on the wicks are reassuring as they help to prevent fuel getting into the shaft and once they're secured those burners aren't going anywhere, unlike on some staffs where the burners are simply screwed in on one side. It does make replacing the burners more challenging than screwed in wicks but they last for a long time before you'll even consider doing that (well over 100 burns) and for the sake of added safet and added weight at the ends I think as compromises go it's well worth the effort!
In conclusion then I'd say that if you're just thinking of starting out on staff or don't want to spend too much money then this is more than likely the best standard staff you could hope to have and well worth the money, or if you happen to have a few staffs (like me) then this is worth getting for your collection simply because of how well made it is and thus how nice it is to spin. This is the standard by which I judge all other staffs and with the exception of a few of the pricier Firetoys ones I usually find other makes lacking in comparrison, and that's the only not-really-negative thing about this staff!
